I would say it to your face, but you won't take my calls. I do know that you read my blog....for those that are wondering why I didn't email - you blocked me.
Look, you have to give up the drugs. You already know what they did to my father. Do you really think your children will be better off without you? This is no role model for your daughter. She starts junior high next year, and do you want her thinking this is okay?
YOU NEED HELP. Now is the time to get it. I am here to help you in any way I can, but I will not just sit by and watch the kids be neglected and I hope your husband doesn't either.
I thought that today I would post some Scriptures that pertain to something I struggle with - anxiety. I don't mean just a little stress. I mean I have the kind of stress that requires daily medication so I can function as a normal person and not freak out.
Genesis 21:17 - And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
Hagar had anxiety and fear, too. Of course her fear was for her son. Yet God took care of everything.
Exodus 14:13-14 - 13And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
The Lord will fight for us. We must bring our things to Him and stay within His peace.
Psalm 13:2-5 - 2How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
3Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
4Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
5But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
This is something I have struggled with. Sometimes it is so hard to give everything over to Him when it feels like the pressure is just never going to end. It is so good to know that I serve a God that hears me and that will take care of me. I need only trust in Him.
1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
By the way, I guess you've probably noticed a couple of changes to my blog in the way of posts. The Lord is really convicting me about some things...
For a while I was really aiming to be a caustic, witty blog (and to some point - that won't change because that is just who I am); however I am feeling the move of the Lord in my life and it is time to reflect the change here.
Okay, so apparently I don’t have shin splints, like I said earlier, but the way it hurt all freaking night long (to the point that the pain nauseated me), this thing has to be broken.
We had a great time at Jim’s and Terra’s house. The kids had a great time. The only thing I hated was that they were already showing “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.It isn’t even Thanksgiving yet for heaven’s sake!!So now I am catching up on my DVR again…watching Cops from last night.I was up all night on the couch and finally went and got in bed about five this morning to no avail.I started with a $700 pay check, but as of right now I am down to $19 after paying bills.I am pretty sure I have enough gas in my car to make it until The Cop Magnet gets paid next week, but I am not sure about The Cop Magnet’s car or groceries or anything else.
All I have to do is ask and I know that my in laws will help us out with groceries. They are so great.I love them so much.I love them more than my own parents, but you have to understand – I am the product of two drug addicts (one of which was an alcoholic).
Here is another Sunday that I will be missing church. My foot just hurts too much.I really do think that the devil is out to get me. I am not the type of Pentecostal that says or thinks that the devil is hiding behind every bush or tree either.Yet since I published my short book on how to witness to a Wiccan, things have just gone to crap.I’ve been in a car wreck, the power cord to my lap top burnt up, and now on top of it all I have a broken ankle. We can’t even figure out exactly how I managed to break it.
I didn’t even get to go to my niece’s birthday party yesterday because it hurts so bad.Coming back from Jim’s I puked twice and puked three more times once we got home. The Darvocet just isn’t helping so I broke down and took a loratab and that still didn’t help.I just don’t know how much more pain I can take.
I only have a four day week (yeah!) but I have to walk (well hop since it’s crutches) from the parking lot to the OMU.Now that is going to stink. Can’t they just cut my foot off?I can’t afford to park in the garage (that’s like $14 a day).
So I thought and was told that I had shin splints. It got so bad I could hardly walk so last night my MIL drove me to urgent care. They did a tib/fib x-ray that came back clean. So I dropped her off and picked up 1/3 of my children (Monkey Butt spent the night with Nana, Beachy and my step son was with The Cop Magnet). Going up the ramp to my trailer, my ankle snapped. It swelled up, turned every color of purple and black that you could possibly imagine and even a few more colors you can't imagine. My MIL came to look and said it looks broken or at least a very bad sprain.
Went back to Urgent Care today and the swelling is still so bad they can't really see anything via x-ray. They casted me up and treating it as a broken ankle. It could just be a really bad sprain, but we won't know until the swelling goes down. I have an ortho appointment next week.
So we thought that I just had shin splints.Nana Beachy took me to Urgent Care this evening because I can barely walk. The pain in my shin is just unbelievable.Well, according to the PA my having Lupus throws a whole new loop into things. They x-ray my fibia and tibia and see nothing wrong there…of course x-rays can’t see muscles or ligaments. So they want me on steroids and on anti-inflammatory medication. That was it – we left.Other than the typical, “Stay off your feet, elevate them…etc”.I was thinking, “Lady it is pretty apparent that you have no children – I have three and that just aint gonna happen.”Don’t get me wrong – my kids are very VERY good compared to a lot of kids I’ve met…speaking of…Bry-onicle pulled up the stool, got my cell phone, home phone, cup of water, my crochet, the TV remote and two pillow to put my foot up on.He even went and found my crutches..
When we get home, I tried walking up the ramp and I heard my ankle (and felt it) snap. Now I can’t flex my foot in either direction and that makes me wonder if the problem hasn’t been in my ankle all along.Nana Beachy just came and left (Monkey Butt is spending the night there) and she looked at my ankle and it is swelling right in the middle. She thinks I might have torn a tendon or something. So now I don’t know if I should go back to Urgent Care tomorrow or not.Urgent Care is just way cheaper than ER.$15 versus $50…hmm..let me think about that one, right?
The Cop Magnet’s Z should be fixed tonight.I am waiting on him to get back from the big city.I need to balance the check book and he gets to play Mr. Mom all weekend.I am kinda bummed out because now I might be missing my niece’s birthday party.I would love to see my brother and just rub it in his face that he now has a teenager in his house!!Ha ha ha ha!
It sucks – I’m hungry and I can’t stay on my feet long enough to make me anything to eat.I had fish sticks so Bry-onicle was fed (he loves fish sticks) by his own efforts. He is playing on neoshifters.com right now and I am watching the DVR.I am really wishing I had something to take the pain away.I don’t know what to do about the pain.
To change my major or not to change my major that is the question...
I turned 29 last week. Right now I am literally sitting at the half way mark of finishing up a BS degree in Paralegal Studies. I've been at it for just under two years. I should finish at just over three years. The thing is...I will never use the degree (read as: I do not want to be a paralegal). I had a taste of law office life and I hated it. I didn't mind the work (of course here, paralegal is pretty much paramount to typing and answering the phone in the private firm realm). I just can't deal with the people. I was in insurance defense and while I agree that everyone should have representation I could not reconcile within myself that someone had use an affirmative defense saying, "Yeah he was drunk when he hit that two year old with his car, but he shouldn't be held responsible because the bar kept serving him." I have a problem with people that can't accept personal responsibility.
If I change my major to psychology, I could lose almost half of my credits. That would set me back almost an entire year. On top of that, I'd have to take statistics. I got a C in college algebra and my GPA is just now recovering (now I have a 3.84). So that would also mean that I would have twice (potentially) the size of a student loan. I took ethics and I am taking history this term, but will they transfer since they are both related to law (legal ethics and the history of criminal justice)? Needless to say I am still waiting to hear back from my Academic Advisor.
My psych prof from this last term offered me a letter of recommendation because he is convinced that I will eventually go for a Master's degree. I was the only one that made an A on the final paper. I have "strong writing skills".
My mother and The Cop Magnet both think I should change majors to "be happy" and to "do what (I) like". Nana Beachy doesn't think it is such a hot idea since I am so close to being finished. I can't get a hold of my pastor for an opinion. I would probably, providing that I change majors, put an emphasis on behavioral analysis.
Another problem is that neither major teaches one how to act tactfully; so either way in a private practice setting I can just see myself (self fulfilling prophecy) saying, "You are in this situation because you are a moron that should not be in the gene pool." But, like we say at my job - tact is for those not witty enough to use sarcasm.
The eventual goal (aside from a Master's) is to write. Write what I don't know....just to write.
I really feel like I am at a cross road in my life. If I do change my major, it isn't like I'll be old when I finish (roughly 31). I will just feel that I've done all this crap for naught.
Yesterday was, indeed, a Monday. Where do I start?
Do you want to know about how I had no umbrella and, consequently, was completely soaked to the point that I had to change my shirt when I got to work?
How about when I went to lunch and was stalled in town by traffic because all three news stations were there?
Better yet - how about when I was coming back to work (walking in from the parking areas) and slipped in a mud puddle and got mud up to my knee?
Oh wait - that doesn't compare much to hitting the pothole on the way to the baseball game and screwing up my tire...
Or the fact that the temperature dropped to 52 and the wind was blowing at about 20..
And to top off my Monday when we got in, Pup Dog had chewed a small hole in the hose that runs from the toilet to the floor and my bathroom was a literal misty shower...but at least the water was clean right?
Oh, and The Cop Magnet's power thingie in the computer went out again. We just bought it...it has a 90 day warranty. So you best believe he is getting his money back!
Hopefully today is better...I won't even tell you what I said to another mom at a baseball game that had the gall to run her mouth about the "new kids" on the team that don't know how to play.
What do you mean it is only Wednesday? It is supposed to be Friday, the GI Bill should have came in by now, and we should have all of our school shopping done...none of which has happened.
Bry-onicle does have an eye appointment today. We are pretty sure he needs glasses. My insurance is pretty good and his eye doctor has a pretty big selection of frames. It costs me $15 to take him in and $25 for a pair of glasses. Monkey Butt will be the next one in...and I have to eventually go in too.
I am about ready to call my doc. I am so tired. I slept for maybe two or three hours last night. The night before I slept for two hours. Uncle Cousin Jerry Springer (I really should add him to the cast of characters - but then I feel like I am some how rewarding him if I do even though he has no idea that I blog) is wearing me out. While it is apparently "okay" to stalk your wife (even though you are separated) it was not "okay" for me to take my kids to see the Simpsons Movie. He's right..it wasn't okay because the movie sucked. I shouldn't have tortured them like that. His argument is that it should be against my religion...not a good card to pull with me right now. I'm kinda cranky.
In the infamous words of South Park...I really wanted to say to him, "Screw you...I'm going home." Yeah I know it is really screw you guys I'm going home..
Actually I am headed for something to eat for breakfast (milk has been bothering me more than usual) and then headed to work. Yall be good now. And leave me a nice comment to cheer me up. I have a funny TT planned for yall tomorrow. I'll try and get it up today for my early bird.
Going off of what I said in the previous post about having standards and to answer Becki's question about how I look different than most everyone else, I am now going to tell you a little bit about my beliefs.
Before I start I want to make something clear to you all. My beliefs are my personal convictions. Aside from attaining my salvation as required in the Bible, my personal convictions will not get me to heaven. They simply make me stand out from the crowd (be ye not transformed) and it is my way of sacrificing and showing my devotion to my God.
With that said...
I am a card carrying member of the UPC (okay, they don't really give us little cards...but it certainly makes for an interesting read). You can read more about the standards of the church here. Some standards vary from church to church...ie whether or not it is acceptable to wear wedding rings or have a television. Some are pretty much "industry standard". I don't expect any of you to truly understand or agree with them. All I can tell you is that once you have the Holy Ghost you begin to understand why having some limits on your own dress is a benefit for yourself and others that are around you.
Like I said in my post entitled, "Different" I stand out. I don't stand out because I have multiple piercings or because I have green hair. I stand out from everyone.
1. I do not cut my hair.
No, not even a trim. If anyone ever tells you that you need to trim your hair to encourage growth, you need to ask them where they learned that. Medical science: hair grows from the roots and not the ends. I quit cutting my hair in 2000 because I was trying to grow it out. I got the Holy Ghost in 2001.
The Bible (God's never changing word) tells us in 1 Corinthians 11:5-7 that (paraphrased) women should be covered when praying or prophesying. Our hair was given to us for a covering. What do you sheer off of a sheep? Hair (fur, whatever). We are the lambs that know the voice of our Master.
Will you, as a woman, go to hell for cutting your hair? I don't think so. I will say that I think women should look like women. However, aside from my personal opinion and my following 1 Corinthians, it is important to note that it is not a Commandment (like in the 10 Commandments), Jesus never talks about it, and the plan of salvation doesn't say for us to repent and oh, by the way, don't cut your hair. I think this is one of those things that becomes a personal conviction when you get close to God and get into His Word.
2. I don't wear pants, jeans, shorts, or capris. I put my skirt on one leg at a time...just like everyone else.
Okay, so not really. I hope none of my few male readers wear skirts (if you wear a kilt then the jury is still out...). I wear skirts and t-shirts, blouses etc...or a dress. Why? I am so glad you asked.
Deuteronomy 22:5 tells us that women should not wear clothes that pertains to a man. Meaning we should not wear men's clothing. Pants are men's clothing. Sure yeah, I know that there are companies that specifically make women's pants, jeans, shorts, etc., but the rest of the verse tells us that when we wear clothes that belong on the opposite sex, it is an abomination to God.
I know that some people think that because this is the OT that we don't have to live by it. I know we are covered by grace, but we need to remember that Jesus came to fulfill the law and not to abolish it. We are also told later in the Gospel that the laws are good for us. The thing is that we no longer have to offer up blood sacrifices or go to a priest to forgive us of our sins. We can go straight to God.
Yes I also know that there are some pretty immodest skirts and dresses out there. I feel personally that I am being immodest if I wear pants. They have the ability to draw a man's attention to the form of my body. The Bible tells us that we should not cause another person to stumble. That's another good reason for abiding by some personal standards. You wouldn't take a recovering alcoholic to a bar, would you?
3. I don't wear make up.
This is strictly personal. The only woman that is ever told about in the Bible that wore make up and was evil was Jezebel. I don't think that make up is necessarily a sin. Once again, you won't find Jesus talking about it or find it in the plan of salvation.
I don't wear make up because I feel that if I do I am insulting God. He made me therefore I am beautiful. I do not need to touch up and improve upon the Lord's work.
And I know someone out there reading this is thinking this so I'll just answer it now. No, I don't have a problem with women that come to my church wearing pants and make up. I'm glad they are in God's house. It is God's job to change whatever part of their life that He wants them to change. I also have no problem with people that wear make up to cover up a burn, scar, birth mark, etc.
4. When I buy clothing it must pass two tests: the praying test and the hallelujah test.
The praying test: I get on my knees. My skirt must touch the ground. Usually my skirts are at least mid-calf, but I have one or two that come just to my knee that I usually wear when I am working in the yard. I haven't found anything (including rock climbing) that I can't do in a skirt. You just have to have the right skirt!!
The hallelujah test: This is for shirts. You throw your hands up in the air and shout, "Hallelujah!" Okay, you don't really have to shout. I am just looking in the mirror to ensure that my belly isn't showing and that you can't look down my sleeves (if they are short) and see inside my shirt. Oh, and it helps to bend forward to make sure the shirt is tight enough in the front to not let your girls hang out for a public show.
That's really about it for me (at least for the big stuff). I hope I answered your questions and if not, feel free to send me more.
I'm more nervous than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I had my second interview today. I feel like I'm torn between two lovers - and that's being generous and full of my self thinking I would even be offered bout jobs. If I am - do I go to the law school which is smaller or do I go to the big college back to career services? I should hear about both tomorrow one way or the other.
I've been so jumpy. I've had two wrong numbers on my cell tonight. Both had Norman prefixes and I thought, "This is it!!" Both times -wrong numbers. Be-ahhhhh!!! This is maddening!
I did finish my paper for social problems, though. We are slated for rain for the next three days. I'll be able to get my legal ethics paper done. We are going to try and do some hiking tomorrow before the rain moves in.
I've got other thoughts swimming in my head, but I'll spare you for now.
I honestly think that I am totally losing what little bit is left of my brain. I know that when I was 5 I got the math smarts knocked out of me by a Louisville Slugger by Big Baldy (he was 10). The story is (and I don't remember) that I walked behind him when was gearing up to swing. So that answers part of why I suck in math.
Do you know something disturbing that caught me today (and can you tell I'm off my meds)? The fact that liberals want to save the whales and save the trees and save the environment...but to hell with the unborn babies. Let's just make it legal to kill them while we use pork barrel politics to ensure that we don't drill into the barren areas of Alaska to bring down our dependency on foreign oil. NOTE TO ALL LIBERALS: IF YOU KILL THE BABIES THERE WILL BE NO MORE LITTLE LIBERALS TO CONTINUE THE QUEST TO SAVE WHALE BLUBBER.
I am just so sick and tired of the sheer stupidity that freaking surrounds me on a daily basis. I am tired of going out of my way to be nice to people. I know that I am not the most lovey dovey person (except when it comes to my kids)...and yet when I make an effort, I get griped at and they take it out of context or twist it around. I am sick and tired of being the bad guy. I really, really, really am.
I am tired of being treated like I'm stupid. So what if I have brain damage that affects my ability to do math? My IQ is over 140. Something tells me that I'm not too stupid. Do I act stupid sometimes? Sure, who the heck doesn't? But why does everyone else get the benefit of the doubt except me? I relate to children, keep them busy, and know how to make them feel like they are the most important things in the world - even kids that aren't mine.
I have Lupus. I'm sick with a really bad cold right now. I still have all the little neighborhood brats over to do crafts, drink Kool-Aid and play. I teach the girls how to behave as young ladies. I teach them that they don't need to use profanity to get their points across.
I teach boys how to build things (even though I suck at it). I teach boys how to throw foot balls and how to stand right to swing a bat. I teach boys to ride bikes and to get up and dust themselves off and try again. I stay up all night with puking little kids.
I am graduating with honors next year from college. I am completing a four year degree in just over two years. Yeah, I'm so stupid.
I am starting to come to the realization that being nice, and I mean ultra nice, just doesn't pay off when it comes to adults. Being civil? You bet. How hard is it for the neighbor to watch my kid for five minutes so I can run to the post office / gas station when I've kept their kids for hours on end all day...they eat my food, tear up my house (not literally), and most of them call me MOM. Yeah, I'm so worthless.
Yet here I sit so incredibly stressed out with my thumb bleeding like there is no tomorrow because physical pain sure in the hell beats out emotional pain any day of the freaking week. I am so ready to just stay OFF my medication so I can go back into that nice, safe black and white area where I just don't care what other people think of me.
But, for those of you that truly know me either in person or by regular correspondence, don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I just need to freaking decompress which is virtually impossible for me. I need a freaking vacation. I would love to have $1000 dollars and just take the kids on a nice long trip to Branson or Louisiana or something. Of course that's not going to happen because I am too over qualified to work at Subway or McDonalds or Pizza Hut. I got fired in February. It is now almost June. I send out my resume like crazy (and it is a DAMN good resume. I do awesome resumes). I've had a few interviews but no call backs and one rejection letter.
In life we have a difficult time getting a job without experience and an even tougher time getting experience without a job.Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t work like that?Aren’t you glad that He has the same ultimate plan for you as He does for a preacher? While everyone is not called to preach, God’s ultimate plan for us is the same: our lives, no matter what background we have, will glorify Him.Today I would like to encourage you in your endeavor of walking near to Christ by sharing my story.I want you to fully know and really understand that if God can reach down and keep me even when I denied Him that He can and will do the same for you.
I was born September 12, 1978 at 11:31 A.M.My life was a burden to my mother from the moment I took my first breath. You may laugh or even question the truth in my next statement.I was born in the middle of her favorite soap opera. Not only did my impending existence ruin the previous nine months of her life but I now had the audacity to make my grand entrance during her favorite show.
My mother was an alcoholic, prescription drug addict, and mentally ill.My father was a prescription drug addict as well.My great-grandmother, grandmother, aunt and older brother assumed most of my care during the first years of my life.My brother and I spent a lot of nights fearfully awaiting our parents’ arrival home after a night out wondering what we would be beaten for.I remember one such night when I was about three. My brother and I were in our beds.My mother bursts into the room with a belt and rips me out of my bed by my arm.She dangles me in the air and beats me with the buckle down my back and the backs of my legs. She throws me back into my bed and begins to leave.I remember her saying to me, “If you don’t shut up, I will give you something else to cry about.”Shortly thereafter my father came in and made my brother and I both get out of bed.He made my brother bend over a chair and he beat my brother and made me watch.
A five year old child should be enjoying school, playing outside with friends, maybe even learning to swim. They should not be locked outside, beat when they see their mother smoking pot, told to pack their stuff and get out because their mother hates them, and they should not be beaten because they ask for help to put on a pair of socks.Above all, the parents should protect their children. My older brother (almost six years older than I) had a friend that lived down the street.Occasionally that friend and his sister would spend the night. He slept in my brother’s room and the sister slept in my room. The sister was round 12 or 13.This is the first time I’ve ever told anyone this – my mother walked in my room in the middle of the night while the other girl molested me and my mother didn’t do or say anything about it.She left the room.
I lost both of my front teeth when I was almost six.My dad punched me in the face.I was informed on a daily basis on how ugly, useless, and stupid I was.
When I turned thirteen, I was as tall as my mother.I was doing the dishes one day after school and she came in from work. The first thing she did was start cussing and she started hitting me in the face and about the arms.I had a cast iron skillet in my hand and I hit her back. She never hit me again but she still made it abundantly clear that I was neither loved nor wanted.Around that same time, the school started noticing that I was “different” but no one could put their finger on it.I went to a counselor at school and told them what was going on at home.I was told it was my fault and all children need “discipline”.The school did, however, place me in gifted and talented programs for music and academics.I thought, “Finally I can gain the approval of my parents!”I quickly learned that it didn’t matter what kind of grades I brought home, I was still stupid.
Everything was out of my control. My brother moved out when I was 14.Although I was no longer being hit, I was still the root cause of every problem my parents seemed to have. There were many, many times when I would go as long as a week and a half without eating because there was no money. My mom got fired from her job and my dad would call in and quit his at any moment’s notice.
In 1995, my mother had her “first” psychotic break. She just started crying and throwing stuff out of the blue.My dad was asleep.I knew if I woke him up, it was going to get a lot worse than it already was.I called my aunt. She rushed over and took my mother to a psychiatric ward.Since my father worked nights and slept during the day, I was on my own.My dad went to work stoned one night and got hit over the head with a hammer. The hospital called and said that he might not make it.I punched a wall and broke my hand (no, I am not that weak – I hit the stud and cracked it).My mom came home (as did my father) about two weeks later.I still had not been to a doctor to see about my hand.It wasn’t until a teacher forced me to go to the hospital because I couldn’t write that we found out it was broken.By that time, the bones had started to heal so they had to re-break my hand. That, of course, required pain medication. My aunt bought it and I went home to heal. There were 60 pills to last for one month. They were gone in 24 hours. My parents stole them. The week before my cast came off, I was on the phone with my husband (who was obviously just my friend at the time). My mother came into the room with a knife and attacked me.If it wouldn’t have been for my being able to block blows with a cast and eventually hit her with it I probably would not be here.
In 1997, I married my first husband.I thought I loved him but looking back on it, part of it was just wanting to get as far away from my parents as humanly possible. You could have convinced me to move to Mars without a space helmet.I “knew” about God.I “knew” that you could do what ever you wanted all week (including drugs, alcohol and abusing your children) and as long as you repented on Sunday then you were alright.I also “knew” that apparently God wasn’t as great as what all those Bible-thumping Baptists thought He was because look at me.God never saved me.God never stopped the abuse. God never heard my prayers.God never made sure I didn’t go hungry. So I turned away from God.I got involved in witch craft.
As a child, I always held some fascination for the occult. Now that I was 18, I could do what I wanted to.I went and bought several books, tarot cards, runes, and started reading everything I could possibly find.Satan told me that it was okay.Satan told me that even if witch craft wasn’t right, I still “believed” in God and the “once saved always saved” would take me to heaven. After all I did not have a mom.I could worship a goddess.Within a year, I was highly respected in the Wiccan community and had my own coven. My marriage was a train wreck.I was working and supporting us.We lived in his mother’s house, he was in community college, and he was also seeing other people.I found out I was pregnant in late October 1997.I had some suspicions earlier but I found out for sure in October. My husband informed me that I was to have an abortion.I refused to even consider it.A couple of days later he informed me that he did not love, never loved me, did not want a baby, and that he was leaving to carry on a relationship with someone else. All this time I knew that being involved in the occult was wrong.Conviction hit me.If only I had not gotten involved, I thought, my marriage would not be falling a part (sort of a silly thought now that I think about it since he was an atheist).I prayed to God that night.I prayed if only He would save my marriage, I would serve Him.
I went back to Oklahoma (from Texas) and moved in with my brother long enough to find a job and a place to live.I had a baby coming. It was a bittersweet time for me.I felt some relief because I didn’t have to worry about where my husband was all night.I was excited to be pregnant (even if I was alone); I could be the mom that I wanted to have as a child.I liked the thought of having my own place. When I was living with my ex-husband, I was denied any contact with my friends. When I returned to Oklahoma the first thing I did was fire off a letter to my friend “Mouse”.I didn’t hear anything for a couple of months – I started to think that he didn’t care. One night my phone rang. The letter was forwarded to Maryland and his parents held my letter until he went to visit his parents. He called me right after he read the letter. He said, “I am so glad you came to your senses and came home.I talked to The Cop Magnet right before I called you to let him know I made it to Maryland okay.I told him I had a letter in my hand from you and he wants me to ask you if he can have your phone number.”I said yes.He said, “Good.Invite me to your wedding.”I rolled my eyes and we talked and caught up for over an hour. When I hung up from him, I was so happy and relieved. At least I had someone to talk to (even if he was already trying to marry me off – which was the last thing I wanted to think about). The Cop Magnet called me about an hour later.I said, “That was fast.”He said, “I’ve been trying to call you for a couple of hours and your line was busy.Matt [Mouse] gave me your number before he even called you.”The Cop Magnet and I talked on the phone a lot during the next few months. One night he said, “I want to be there when the baby is born.”I told him I would call him when I went into labor.Bry-onicle was born June 21, 1998 11:31 A.M., (is it any coincidence that if you turn the six upside down, reverse the 21 and subtract 20 years that you get my birthday?I always found that kind of interesting) Father’s Day.I was incredibly sad for my baby boy.He had a mommy but he didn’t have a daddy.Could I really do this by myself?A million thoughts raced through my head.I spent my entire pregnancy alone.I gave birth alone.I lived alone.I would now raise my baby alone. There was a knock at the door.It was The Cop Magnet. He found out from my brother that I had a son.He was hurt that I didn’t call him and let him know I was in labor. He asked if he could hold the baby.As he sat in the rocking chair, the nurse came in.She said, “He looks just like his daddy.”I started to say, “That’s not his dad,” but The Cop Magnet beat me to the punch. He said, “Thanks. This is my son.”Over the next two years, if I needed anything at any time The Cop Magnet was there. He bought diapers, bottles, baby formula, and he would baby sit if I had to work overtime. In early 2000, we moved in together in an effort to conserve money.I had given up on Wicca but I certainly wasn’t going down the straight and narrow path either. In March we found out that we were expecting Monkey Butt. That was a very tumultuous pregnancy with trips to the hospital, stress tests, and going to the OB practically every time I turned around.I had agreed around the time I found out I was pregnant with Monkey Butt to marry The Cop Magnet but I wouldn’t set a date.My feet were very cold when it came to the idea of getting married again (like shacking up is so much better). On November 17, 2000 two visitors showed up on our door step: Mouse and our other friend Jim.We went to the courthouse and they stood up as witnesses when we were married.
Once my mother in law found out I was technically pagan, I figured I was in for some fireworks, arguments, conniption fits and the likes. She said, “Oh yeah? How’s that working for you?”Instead of answering her question, I told her that in high school I logically figured out that Christianity was nothing more than a myth.I presented her with my paper (that the teacher reluctantly gave an A on) that listed the ten guidelines of a myth.I told her, “If you can refute every point in this paper then I will go to church with you.”She said, “How much time do I have?”I was so cocky and convinced that it couldn’t be done that I told her to take all the time she wanted to take and enlist as many people as she wanted to.I was recovering from a c-section and she gave me some books to read (by Ruth Rieder).I was fascinated by the stuff I read. How could such simple beliefs bring anyone so much joy that they would even consider writing about them?I was very curious and started to secretly hope my mother in law could prove my paper wrong.I wanted to go and meet these women – the very women that threw a baby shower for me when I was pregnant with Monkey Butt and they did not even know me.The husbands of those women (and probably some of the women too) took up my challenge and helped my mother in law refute every single point I made.To this day, I can’t even remember the answers but to tell you the truth – I don’t care!It got me in church. My first visit to New Life Tabernacle I was very nervous.I was so different than every one there. They all knew I was pagan. They all knew I was in my second marriage.Everyone in that church was so nice to me.They treated me like I mattered (which was a new feeling for me). They treated me like I belonged.I honestly went in there expecting them to shun me; I was so surprised that it almost got over the initial shock of seeing people clap, sing, dance, shout and carry on in a church service! The only religious experience I had came from a Baptist church. They don’t do that (at least not the ones I went to)!The one sister (aside from my mother in law) that really affected me was Sister Tabitha. She is a couple of years older than me, married, and has two young children. Her spirit was so peaceful and joyful. She was so friendly and loving – she was the sister that planned the games for my baby shower.I started thinking, “Wow.Where can you get that kind of peace and joy?I’ve never had that before.”I started recounting the feelings I did know.I couldn’t think of a time other than the births of my children and marrying The Cop Magnet that I ever felt pure joy.Life with joy?She had joy?How could I get that?I started wanting what they had.I couldn’t put my finger on it but I wanted it.A couple of months later (Feb. 01), I was filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost by evidence of speaking in tongues.I immediately felt a difference.I was baptized in Jesus’ Name shortly after.
Of course, my life isn’t all peace and joy.I have lots of trials that I have to face – including my background and mental disorder (I am what is known in the psychiatric community as living with a borderline personality disorder).Something dawned on me though when I sat down to write this.We call it a “background” because it is *behind* us.It might be where I came from but it is *not* where I am going. It didn’t matter to God that my parents were addicts and abusive. It didn’t matter to God that I followed pagan ways at one point in time.It didn’t matter to God that my first marriage failed (in fact I am now glad that it did).God was no respecter of persons. He always had His hand on me even when I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) look at it.The fact still remains that I have the peace of the Lord.I have the peace of knowing that God is near and He is bigger than any trial I have faced or will have to face.He is bigger than any problem that comes my way.He is the parent I never had – He loves me regardless.
I am not cut from the cloth of ministry.I did not go to BibleCollege.I am not necessarily a people person.I am a child of God with a higher purpose in mind – glorifying Him.I have never taken a class to enhance my writing skill (although I probably should).I am learning on the job.God is looking for people like me (and like you).He is looking for people He can train to do things the way He wants them done.It is not an easy job but the rewards are astounding. If He can use me (even after being battered, bruised and scarred by the world) then He can use you too.
1 Philippians 3:14 – I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Anyhoo, two of my favorite books are by Wally Lamb. One is I Know This Much is True and the other is She's Come Undone.
I am borrowing his title to signify when I am very stressed and just need to vent - not about the news or anything that deserves an old fashioned rant, but when I need to just unwind. Like now. So enjoy the new label even though I haven't posted anything under it besides this. Maybe I will later.
